The speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, Ms. Szili Katalin visited Korea

The speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, Ms. Szili Katalin who visited Korea from August, 25th to 28th, 2006 awarded Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to the Chairman of the Defence Committee of the Korean National Assembly, Mr. Yoo Jay-kun who supported the Hungarian revolution in 1956.

Member of Uri Party, Mr. Yoo Jay-kun was a student at Yonsei University at the time. With the former speaker, Mr. Lee Man-sup, he organized student activists and asked the minister of defence to send them to Hungary to join the independence movement.


’Hungarian Impressions’

From September 19th to 29th 2006, the exhibition ’Hungarian Impressions’ was held in the Korea Foundation Cultural Center. At the exhibition, drawings of László Vinkler, pictures of Hungarian Castles provided by the National Trust of Monuments for Hungary, panels about Bartók Béla’s life, and artworks of young Hungarian artists were displayed. In addition, Hungarian movies were shown.

Dr. Torzsa István, Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary awarded a Commemorative Medal of Hero of Freedom to the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-moon on October 23rd.

When he was only 12-year-old student, the former Minister Ban Ki-moon read out a letter asking UN Secretary General to support the Hungarian revolution in 1956.


"Hungary Music Festival” celebrating 125th anniversary of Béla Bartók’s birth

On October 30th and 31st, With the cooperation of the Korea Liszt Society and the Korean Kodály Association, a Music Festival was held in Concert Hall of Kumho Arthall. On the first day, the talented young pianist Péter Tóth who was awarded a prize in Liszt Piano Competition and Ms. Hwang Yun-ha, the chairman of Liszt Society gave a concert and after, a reception was held. On the second day, Seoul Kodály Singers who are composed of Kodály Association members gave a choir performance to remember.


Seminar and film

Seminar and film – On December, 4th, 2006, a seminar will be held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Hungarian Revolution. Lectures will be given by Former Speaker of the Korean National Assembly Lee Man-sup who was honoured with Commemorative Medal of Hero of Freedom and two other professors from Hungarian department at Hankook University of Foreign Studies.
