I. What is Client Gate?
Client Gate (or “Ügyfélkapu”) is an access point to e-government services in Hungary. The system provides a platform for its users to connect with Hungarian authorities offering electronic administration services.
Attention! Please note that as of 16 January 2025 the Client Gate service will no longer be available and will be replaced by the Client Gate+ service. The old one factor authentication (username and password) is changed to a two factor authentication (username, password and a code generated by an authenticator).

Any natural person may register an account on Client Gate, regardless of citizenship.
II. Procedure
At the consulate, the following procedures are available:
1. Initiation of the registration of a Client Gate account for the first time
2. Deletion of a previous Client Gate account
3. Modifying information on a Client Gate account.
Required documents:
1. For Hungarian citizens: Hungarian identification card, passport or driver’s license;
2. For ’EEA’ citizens: EEA identification card or passport;
3. For other foreign citizens: passport.
III. Registration of a Client Gate account
The consul verifies the client’s identity and creates the Client Gate account for them. Following the successful registration, a single-use activation code will be sent to the provided e-mail which will allow the activation of the newly created Client Gate account.
During the activation, you must provide a username and a new password of your choice, which will be valid a maximum of 2 years (A shorter validity period may be set if preferred). Once a personal password has been created, the full range of services will become available on Client Gate. The Client Gate account remains valid indefinitely.
A new single-use activation code may be requested using the Government Portal’s forgotten password function which remains valid for a maximum of 5 days.

IV. Consular fee
The procedure is free of charge.
